CraigsLUST: A Sexploration

May 2014: CraigsLUST: A Sexploration

Meeting people is hard. Meeting sane people is harder. Meeting sane people on Craigslist is nearly impossible! Join us for an improvised adventure into dating, modern romance, and missed connections. Come see us, and who knows, maybe you'll be someone's missed connection… Your suggestions fuel the scenes. From the people who brought you 2013’s improvised version of The 39 Steps. In this show, we'll play some improv games and have some fun. Part of our show will also be a short original play inspired by your suggestions and the insane things people do on Craigslist. If you've ever met someone sexy or fascinating, but didn't get their name, you can create a Missed Connection. If the object of your desire sees your post, you can reconnect and... get to know each other better. Most missed connections in Florida happen at Walmart, or in theme parks. If you have a missed connection at Fringe, bring the story to our show. You might meet them after all!

As printed in the show program for CraigsLUST: A Sexploration at 2014 Orlando Fringe:
This year's production has been a real-life graduate course in theatre for me. I started out in the 2013 season with a bug to make a Fringe show, after watching my friends do it for so many years. The 39 Steps was so much work, but I could not wait for the lottery this year. Then I was 16th on the waiting list, and I thought my idea for a sci-fi story would have to wait for a whole year or an independent production. I was right.

Again this year, I feel like having the reviewers at the preview was worth it - we incorporated some things into our show based on their comments, and I feel our following 4 shows improved as a result.

Once again, Seth Kubersky came to review my show. I feel like he does a great job of setting up what you are going to see separate from the "opinion" part of the piece:

Recently I wrote a blog post talking about our process developing games for CraigsLUST, with a video of the cast playing Speed Dating during a recent performance.

When I set out to create CraigsLUST, I wanted to do some story-based long-form improv. However, I also realized that so much of the fun of Missed Connections and online dating in general was some of the ridiculous situations that arise, and the people one meets. Finally, there was the elephant in the room that people were terrified that they would meet serial killers by replying to Craigslist ads. I wanted to address as many of these as I could in individual games.

On Monday was the local Orlando Fringe local shows preview. 300 or more guests and a large number of performers representing over 40 Fringe shows were on hand to give and take 2 minute snippets of their show (or totally unrelated attention-seeking gags). We decided to do a preview of one of our signature Criagslist games, "Me & You".
