Auditions Moving Ahead

Tomorrow we will be auditioning for our production at the 2013 Orlando Fringe Festival, The 39 Steps. It's an ambitious undertaking for a number of reasons, but right now I'd just like to get the casting part out of the way.

We're doing a new take on a genre-defining classic. People have seen this story before. I think the goal of any adaptation is to give people who love the story (like myself) something firmiliar, but also something to sink their teeth into. We are not pretending to do anyone else's version - we will be improvising large portions of the story in each performance.

We have to find our leading character, our villain, our companion, and a few cast members capable of pulling off the rest of the parts in the story.

This is also my first time producing a full-length theatre production, but I don't think that's going to hurt if we can find some great people to help us bring this story to fruition.

The 39 Steps

Richard Hannay, who appears ordinary, is drawn against his best judgement into a mystery. The police and the establishment are chasing him. A long-form improvised spy thriller based on the classic John Buchan novel, it's a different conspiracy every night. Hannay, the original spy hero; only his razor wit and clues from a dead spy will get him through this.
