May 2013: The 39 Steps

Richard Hannay, who appears ordinary, is drawn against his best judgement into a mystery. The police and the establishment are chasing him. A long-form improvised spy thriller based on the classic John Buchan novel, it's a different conspiracy every night. Hannay, the original spy hero; only his razor wit and clues from a dead spy will get him through this.

39 Steps News

March 2013

The very first live improvised show I saw was during the Fringe festival, or at SAK Comedy Lab, or both, in the early 2000s. It's hard to say.

Back then, SAK (in their 2nd home near the Orlando Arena and Bob Carr) was being used as a venue for Fringe, along with Mad Cow, Will's Pub, Cafe Annie, Orlando REP, and Church Street Exchange if I remember correctly. I'm sure I didn't see shows in all of the venues back then, but I now realize how special the festival was and is to the city.

March 2013

In the last few weeks we have been meeting at a warehouse in Winter Garden for rehearsals, and things have been going really well. Our initial "script" has gotten some updates from the first draft, and we are fleshing out the lists of props, sound effects, backgrounds, and other set pieces we may need to pull off our dream.

March 2013

We had our first rehearsal last night - probably the coldest day we will have for the next 9 months or more. Everyone was freezing, but some hot coffee and tea helped keep us warm in the warehouse where we're meeting.

I never thought it would be so hard to find a place to rehearse on a consistent basis, but I'm positive now that every show has to deal with this problem in a very big way.

February 2013

Becky and I are proud to announce our casting for the 2013 Fringe production of The 39 Steps improvised show. At this time, our cast is an ensemble composed of 4 members: Megan Borkes, Christian Cheker, Nadia Garzon and Max Hilend. (pictured in that order)

February 2013

Tomorrow we will be auditioning for our production at the 2013 Orlando Fringe Festival, The 39 Steps. It's an ambitious undertaking for a number of reasons, but right now I'd just like to get the casting part out of the way.

November 2012

I'm so happy to be included in the 2013 Orlando Fringe Fest! When I walked in to the Lottery Drawing earlier this week, imagine my surprise when Michael Marinaccio called "Invisible Frisbee Productions, The 39 Steps! Pink Venue! Our first local group!"

I understand several groups did not get drawn at all in the lottery. I think this means we have a little bit of Richard Hannay's good fortune with us as we undertake this year's show.

See you all in May!
